Full House-Farmington Valley View Open House/Resource Fair Was Packed

From Joyce White, the Beulah Thayer Children's Room Coordinator, at the Goodwin Library:

The Goodwin Library is at the Valley View Open House/Resource Fair each year as part of our effort for community outreach. This year was a very full house!

We passed out our story time flyers, invites to our Saturday reception for Shanna Smith, our new Library Director. We brought samples of the books we offer, especially new books from the Parenting section.

We have been partnering with VVCS for the past year as they have begun "The Leader in Me" initiative, which has shown in other schools to increase school-wide cooperation and empathy, along with improved test results.

This fall, they (and we) are re-introducing this program, and I included many of the Stephen and Sean Covey titles in my Open House presentation. Many children pointed them out to their parents, who responded enthusiastically.

In the Goodwin Library, we display the Covey titles and offer related activity sheets. Since the Open House, both copies of Sean Covey's children's book, "Seven Habits of Happy Kids" have been borrowed. We also have the book on CD in the Children's Room.

If someone wishes to borrow these items they may call or email us and we will put them on reserve for the items.
